Fake Smile

Fake Smile

A Poem by Damaris Paz

You can look at me and think nothing is wrong
That my life is perfect
My smile is so convincing
I hide my scars so very well
You would think my world is right
But as the night wanders into my room
The tears begin
The cutting starts
The pills get swallowed
Everything is spinning
I feel sick
I wonder how i got to this place where solitude has become my only friend
I stand in front of the mirror
I don't know this girl
She is a stranger lost in this world, stuck in this body
I have tried to look for her but I have given up
I leave my room and the mask comes on
This daily routine I have it memorized
Smile for the crowd
Hide the scars
Wave as if your world wasn't falling apart
Oh what a perfect life!

Very powerful. I can relate like many others can. Very sad but nice. Great job.

At least you can still smile. This poem is sad but very nice. Many girls/boys can relate. Good job!

Damaris - the title is very appropriate for your write! Although I say I thoroughly liked this piece, I am sad as well because you truly made me feel what you feel daily. Wonderfully depressed write!
