Granted

Granted

A Poem by Tasha
"

For special needs people.

"

We take for granted

Everyday the use

Of our bodies;

Our arms, legs,

Even mouth

We can curse

Like a sailor

But yet can't

Stop to say hello

To the people

That wish

They could

Live like us;

To a place

Where people

Won't look at them

Like they are an alien;

Sometimes I'd like

To see what its like

To live a day in their shoes

If they could spend a day

In mine

I know they'll cherish it forever

Yesterday was Special Olympics and its a shame that people who volunteered were mean to them and didn't help them. Honestly if you didn't want to be there and help why did you come??

I love this piece. I haven't thought of someone who has it worse then me in a long time. thank you for writing this. it has opened my eyes again. I used to live with special need kids. that foster family loved them and it someone said anything wrong to them then the foster parents were all over you. One of my old friends had a cousin that was special needs. I forget what she was born with but i felt so bad for her. She was just so adorable. she didn't know me but it looked to me as if she tried to wave at me. I went over to her and said hi. my friend came back in the room and told me about her. i just wanted to cry. when my friend wanted to go back to her room i was like you wanna stay out here with your cousin. we ended up watching cartoons until i left. some people are just so cruel and i hate people like that. people don't realize that could have been them or they could have a child like that. would they not love that child because of their special needs. I really want to adopted a special needs child. i always have. anyways great write and i think i needed to read that.

I love this. We truly do take things for granted, and are sometimes so selfish that we don't think about people who have it so much worse. This piece really reinforces that and makes us reflect. Great work!
