You Weren't Even There

You Weren't Even There

A Story by Tasha

Twelve long years have passed,
through its ups and downs I've made it,
and you weren't even there

You weren't there to see
your one and only child
walk across the stage
to get their diploma

You weren't there when I went
on my first date,
or when I got my heart broken...

You weren't there to comfort me
when I needed it the most,
and you weren't there to give me hope
when my world started to crash down

You weren't there to see the proudest
moment in your child's life
I'm grown up now,
its far  too late for you to try to be there for me now,
because you were never there...

Author's Note

 Tasha
I have a lot of friends who graduated this year, and a lot of their fathers didn't show up to their graduation and it struck at me to write this because in 2 years, I'll be in their shoes. Thanks for your reviews.

This is a harsh reality that's out there.. and it breaks my heart.. I just want you to know that nothing can take that sense of loss from you..but remember the ones that were there for you and how much they love you.. and all your friends here are so proud of you and all of your accomplishments...xx

Hi, Ta'Shandra!

Your words spoke directly to me and were the absolute truth. I felt that same pain when I graduated. Luckily I had my friends and my mom to help me through school life and home life. You hit a home run here, Sweetie. Dads who aren't there when you need them aren't dads at all IMHO. Strangely, my violent, alcoholic dad dried up and asked for my forgiveness. When we made peace, he was killed 2 weeks later by a drunk driver as he crossed the street. Figure that one out.

See for me it was the other way around, My mother is the one whose not in my life, my father is the one who is there for me, he always was. but it was an amazing read, i really like the wording

This issue of a father not being there is heard far too often. Mothers become the backbone of the world by default.

I felt more anger than sadness in this piece. But you know what else is there??? Strength! A missing parent is obviously not a great thing but growing strong without is an achievement on it's own.

such a mess Ta'Shandra...I can't beleive a father would not be there for their own...whether because of separation, divorce, or for that matter any reason, what else do we live for but our kids and family...I hope when you do graduate you have a fantastic time...believe in yourself and you will be a success...love and peace my friend...

The tragic lifestyle of many is displayed in this all-too-true story. As depressing as it is, the way you've laid everything out is poetic-so thank you.
