After The Storm

After The Storm

A Poem by Darian Justine

Rain falls down from the sky
pouring, pouring to the ground
lightning rips the night air open
as thunder crashes all around

the wind picks up
and soon gains speed
the trees are blowing
all the animals begin to flee

the storm keeps raging around us
lightning, thunder,heavy rain
God is making noise on his drum
as the angels sing out their pain

But soon enough the air falls silent
and all the animals return to their homes
the limbs on the trees soon wave softly
turning the night into a whispering dome

you can't hear a sound in the night
except the gentle patter of the rain in the streets
the stars shine brightly, triumphant in their light
as the horrid storm retreats

children soon go back to their beds
thankful the storm is now over
mothers and fathers can relax a bit
now that the wind is moving slower

Soon enough the angels stop crying
from all their tears, they're exhausted and worn
God can stop beating on his drum
and bring silence after the storm
