Lie Awake

Lie Awake

A Poem by Darian Justine

It is three in the morning
and yet here I still lay
listening to your voice
and envisioning your face

It is hard to sleep without you
even though I have all of my life
but for once my mind is filled with you
instead of bitter, angry strife

I've been this way since the day we met
getting used to the sleepless nights I endure
for a second my mind wonders what you're dreaming of
but it's me, I'm for sure

At first you wouldn't let me in
then gave me your heart, not to break
I hold the key tightly in my hand
as here I lie awake
