Symphony for Cutters

Symphony for Cutters

A Poem by PetiteGemini
"

I used to cut, but I quit. The reason why I cut was because it helped me get through hard times and cope with my feelings.

"

Knives all around me

Tempting me to use them

I must resist the urge

To hurt myself again

Physical pain hurts

Less than emotional

It heals quicker and

Makes it easier to cry

Feeling down, I pick one up,

Putting it to my arm

A little pressure and a glide

Forms a line of blood

I just cringe and repeat

Till my arms are covered with tinks

It may hurt, but

It helps me feel better

Doing this when I'm down

Helps me get through my day

It makes me relieve and sigh

For I can no longer feel the pain

For all of you that have never dealt with this problem, you may not be able to relate to what this poem means. Although, those that have quit or are trying to quit cutting or just don't want to, you know how it feels to want to hurt yourself to release the pain.

I have dealt with this problem. First hand and second hand. Once I learned that my younger sister was following in my footsteps [ so to speak ] is when I tried even harder to quit. I can relate to this poem, and I think you expressed the emotions of it all perfectly.

I may not be a cutter, but I could probobly, maybe relate to this when I feel down. Insted of cutting, I write storys.

I can relate and wish I didn't. Yet the feeling I get can be such a rush and so intoxicating. Awesome poem.

I can definitely relate to this. But thankfully, I haven't purposely slit my skin suit in two years. This is a very good poem. A poem that those who have been there can relate to.

Personally, I have never had to deal with this problem, so I can't really relate, but you provide a very good insight into the mind of cutter, thank you for sharing :)

i have never had to do something like this to ease the pain. but my sister all of my girlfriends and my cousin have done this. i try to help but to no avail. it makes me feel powerless that I cannot help those I love to not hurt so much.

The strong feeling of pain echoes in your poem. I have known this type of thing whenever I see people slash their wrists as a sign that they experience extreme emotional pain. They can hide it all over but they are sometimes at their limit so they do anything they can to relieve some of it by cutting through skin. A sweet sense of reality and being more common among teenager and young adults.

I once was addicted to cutting and when I stopped I figured I would die from the stress of not cutting. I had to though. If I wanted to heal from the past and me depression I had deal with the emotions and try not to hide from them.
Thanks for writing this.
