elik: "the one who has eyes"

elik: "the one who has eyes"

A Poem by A.M. Nelson

I drop the quotation marks on the floor
simply pin this page down with ink,
fleece it of innocence;
break its back with words.

And of wild swans I have only sought
some elegance in fury-- some
rage boiled from the eyes. But,
the black tint of feather goes deeper,
their beaks most unkind, and
in such passion I have found my fingers lacking.

Tomorrow I may seek to walk the edges of clouds
but knowing words can't hold me up forever,
I might just tread on speech--
walk upon my empty mouth; lost
to the shuffling of pages, to vacant dynasty.
Utter peace in silence.
