inside

inside

A Poem by A.M. Nelson

inside where the pain is.
we scream and scream
and rainbows wash
awayaways down the
drain and down the sink
and down the rabbit hole.

we are flourescent and beautiful
aimed at nothing but the swallowing
sky, easy black, all or everything
come to ease our minds away
where truth and beauty find
a counterpoint to despair.

be there night and soldiers
turning into dust or just the
lazy wink of the sun, inside,
where the pain is

we are slowly growing still.
