Dirty Dreams

Dirty Dreams

A Poem by DeliriousCerises
"

Those dreams that were forgotten or beat down. The original "99 cent dreams"

"
Just a one time thing
And then it'll be over
When the world won't sing
What will you do?

A car pulls up,
A girl gets out
Another ride without luck
Another, "screw you"

They say make lemonade
From those bitter lemons
But what you craved
Was purple grape juice

Have you ever seen a tragedy
In your hometown menagerie?
Travel the world to see what lies
Behind those bright eyes

When you saw the open door
A dream you wanted
You couldn't pay for
Dirty urban streets offered a way

Dreams without a wrong or right
Bright Eyes, don't lose sight
What you earned tonight
Was a ten cent pay

A saving grace
Of making time
To buy 99 cents
On a dime

Everyone has one
A forgotten dirty dream
Left in the gutter
Envisioned, but not achieved

Needing a dollar or more,
In a world of dimes
How do you pay for
Dreams on a dirty sign

What to give?
What to take?
Some dreams live
And some dreams break

Author's Note

DeliriousCerises
So I thought it would be fun to compare two poems inspired by the same sign, written three years apart. I tweaked this one just a bit, but nothing major. Still written by whoever I was back then. Reviews are very much appreciated, good and bad!
