Ranger Wars (A Power Ranger Prequel) Pt1A Screenplay by Daniel Rodriguez Before Jason and the team lead Earths Defense from Angel Grove against the evil Princess Rita... This is Power Rangers as a Space Opera, with a focus on war and its characters. Opening CLOSE UP OF EARTH, ON THE HORIZON ZORDON (V.O.) Many a millenia ago, before the dawn of civilization began to take it’s root... the world was connected to the stars.
Zoom out to a layout of the Earth, The sun, the moon, and Mars. ZORDON (CONT’D) The galaxy was not such a lonely place and three distinct cultures had risen. With the two planets came their respected five power coins. Legend says they were made from the planets themselves and perhaps if civilization had indeed expanded further, there may be others awaiting. Five for the Earth, and five for Mars. EXT. SIMULATION FIELD A close up of a human, who backs away until his whole body is in view. ZORDON (V.O.) These coins were said to possess a great power. The person is swamped by creatures, who wish to attack. He flashes the power Coin and at once, he transforms into a Power Ranger. They attack, but the Power Ranger easily defends himself. ZORDON (CONT’D) And on the kingdom of the Moon... INT. MOON PALACE, THRONE ROOM The GREEN Ranger walks and bows before the KING. ZORDON (V.O.) There was one coin that was said to possess even greater power. Close up of Green.
MONTAGE OF RANGERS Each Ranger is doing a demonstration, their demonstrations blending together. ZORDON (V.O.) And so, each civilization granted only the best warriors to become what are called Guardians or “Rangers”. These warriors were guardians of their planets. Should ever war threaten the land, should ever a great enemy strike... EXT. SMALL FURTURISTIC CITY - AFTERNOON Explosions are going on in the street. People are running in terror. Around these people is the RED Ranger. He begins to walk forward. It turns into a run. He spys forward as he grips his sword. Infront is a group of heavily armored vehicles and people They apear to collide
Black out.
Fade into. RED stands alone...his enemies slain. ZORDON (V.O.) They would rise to fight. LAYOUT OF SUN, EARTH, MOON, AND MARS ZORDON (V.O.) And so were the days, long since past. The Union of Earth, a planet ripe with culture, tradition, and philosophy. And then there was the Empire of Mars, a planet filled with industry, technology, and science. Between these two powerfull forces was the neutral Kingdom of the Moon. It was a place that prided itself in its history, nobility, and class. INT. MOON PALACE, OBSERVATION ROOM YOUNG Princess RITA is running around, playing. TUDOR runs in after her. TUDOR Young girl... will you... YOUNG RITA stops.
In front of her is the perfect viewpoint of Earth, and in the distance, the land that is the kingdom. (An awe inspiring sight) ZORDON (V.O.) It was a time when the future looked so bright, and so prosperous. Young Rita Smiles. ZORDON (CONT’D) This is the begining of how it all came to an end. Zoom in on Rita’s fascination. ZORDON (CONT’D) And the birth of the greastest evil Man will ever know. She looks so innocent. OPENING CREDITS The opening credits are kicked off by a cool rock like, fast beat theme song. The credits themselves have pictures of the characters and or elements.
Examples will include a Drawing of Rita, looking evil, with a hand on her shoulder (like a muse that incites her to be evil...a hint for the plot point) Sev and Ji standing next to each other, ready to fight side by side (representing the plot of freindship between the two) Green turns into RANUR, in an animated drawing, who then, in her beauty flicks her long flowing hair. The drawings and animations should ultimately fortell that there is a big war to come, people will find, love, betrayel, and strife.
EXT. SMALL MARTIAN TOWN - AFTERNOON The scene is styled like that of a Western, the major confrontation looming in the near distance. KID A (V.O.) And then what happened? KID SEV (V.O.) Will you let me finish? Ahem, and so the creature had slaughtered all the militia men in it’s wake. Knowing the army’s best men would be coming soon, he took the entire town hostage. And then, they showed up.
INT. BIG HOUSE, SECOND STORY - AFTERNOON The MONSTER is looking outside. EXT. SMALL MARTIAN TOWN - AFTERNOON THE DARK RANGERS step out. The Martian Armed forces are behind them. MARTIAN LOCAL OFFICER They have taken a family hostage. That...thing has killed all the men we sent in. DARK RED There will be only one more death today. I promise you that. DARK PINK What do you want to do? KID B (V.O.) You are such a liar, you were never there! Camera zooms into... KID SEV, he is hiding behind a building, watching the action. The Monster comes out, with a HOSTAGE. Dark Red seems to talk... The hostage is thrown...Dark Red and Monster charge each other. Close up at Kid Sev watching in fascination. Dark Red stands as the Monster falls and explodes. Kid Sev runs to Dark Red. Dark Red turns around, with the weapon, then freezes. DARK YELLOW Look out! DARK RED It’s just some kid. Kid Sev hugs him. KID B (V.O.) You are a liar and a half! The camera shows dead people, Kid Sev saw them die earlier. DARK RED Hey, you alright? Kid Sev wipes a tear. DARK RED (CONT’D) It’s over. Don’t worry. He puts his hand out, for Kid Sev to shake it. KID SEV Thank you. Kid Sev’s hand shakes it. DARK RED Go home. KID SEV Can, I be strong? Like you? DARK RED Of course. Train, and never leave your focus, and you can be invincible. KID SEV No monsters? DARK RED None that could defeat you. KID SEV How do I become a Ranger? DARK RED Practice, and keep fighting for that dream. One day, your time might come. Dark Red stands up. KID SEV See you later. DARK RED (warm) Come, let’s go. Fade out. EXT. PLAY YARD - DAY Kid’s are playing. Kid Sev is telling his story to KIDS. KID A That is so cool! KID SEV And like that...he was gone. KID B You are such a liar. You think you spoke to the great warrior Red? KID SEV I did! And one day... I am going to be Red Warrior Sev, from Mars! Kid Sev tries to act cool. Kid B pushes Kid Sev. KID B You have to learn how to fight first. KID SEV Don’t push the great Warrior Red! Kid B pushes him again. Kid Sev gets up and they have a fight. Kid’s start cheering on. Kid Sev and Kid B get pulled apart. As the camera starts to zoom out. KID SEV (CONT’D) And it was weird, when I felt his hand...the glove felt like it was made of metal. But when he placed it over mine...it bent as if made of something soft. KID A So...how do you become a Ranger? Are you born to it? KID SEV Maybe...you are chosen. Zoom out and cut to. INT. RANGER TRAINING FACILITY Kid Ji, with pure intensity, is doing a professional and well trained kata. Different camera views of him doing his demonstration This provides a great contrast to the inspiration of Kid Sev. LOFI Enough!
LOFI, an old man, walks from the top floor lookout point, to the floor where Kid Ji is doing all his work, alone. Kid Ji pauses. KID JI So, how well did I perform? LOFI You throw your arms around with high speed and flexibility, but you are too focused. You stress your moves too much. You will fall if you fight like that. KID JI But Warrior Lofi! LOFI Again, this time, sacrifice your strength, for your speed. KID JI But without strength... LOFI Enough of your questions. You will find an adversary who can master his opponents a greater warrior than one who is the stronger. KID JI But... LOFI No more talking. Experiance is the best teacher. KID JI Yes. LOFI If you are going to be Leader Red of Earth, you will need to master yourself and your opponent. KID JI How did you learn to do it? LOFI You mean when I was training to become a Ranger? Like you, the Leader Red of my day trained me, and told me when he passed his power to me, half of what you will learn will be through experience, not through training. KID JI What is it like to be Leader Red? LOFI My advice, let that curiosity be your drive. However, a word of warning; don’t lose yourself once you claim your birthright . Kid Ji goes serious, he yells as he throws a final manuever. INT. MOON PALACE, THRONE ROOM The KING and QUEEN are sitting on a throne. ATTENDANTS flank the isles. Young Rita sits on a small chair. SERVANT steps forward. SERVANT Moon Guardian Green my Lords. SILA and YOUNG RANUR step forward. KING And who is this? SERVANT This is Lady Ranur, she is the daughter of the Guardian. YOUNG RITA Hi.
Young Ranur smiles. They are of the same age, two kids in a room filled with adults makes them kin. SILA No staring at the royal family! YOUNG RANUR Sorry. KING Welcome to our court young one. So I take it you will be the moon’s guardian in years to come? SILA When she is old enough, yes. She shall. What do you say to the King?
Young Ranur goes silent. She doesn’t know the answer. QUEEN How adorable. She is shy as a... SILA She is hardly shy your highness, trust me. I do fear I taught her too much etiquette that she sometimes does not know when to speak and when to keep quiet. YOUNG RITA Can I play with her? A smile from Young Ranur again. QUEEN Maybe later. Would that be alright with you? The Queen and Sila both smile, it is the same smile that Rita and Ranur are sharing (they too were once childhood friends). SILA I see no reason to object a request from her highness.
INT. MOON PALACE, HALL Young Rita and Young Ranur are playing around. YOUNG RITA So, tell me, your mother is a ranger...no? YOUNG RANUR Yeah. She is pretty harsh on my training too. YOUNG RITA So, what can she do? YOUNG RANUR Um... I don’t know. Mom stuff I guess. YOUNG RITA I mean, what does she do as a Ranger? YOUNG RANUR Whatever she wants I imagine. YOUNG RITA Do you know anything? YOUNG RANUR Hey, dont make fun of me. YOUNG RITA You're lucky. I hear, that they can...
INT. SEV’S HOUSE - NIGHT Sev is relating his story. KID SEV I hear, they can ride giant robots! INT. MOON PALACE, HALL YOUNG RITA They can fly! INT. SEV’S HOUSE - NIGHT KID SEV They can lift anything! INT. RANGER TRAINING FACILITY Ji is sitting down, thinking. KID JI I wonder... if they are invincible. INT. MOON PALACE, HALL YOUNG RITA So... Have you ever tried it? YOUNG RANUR The coin? No. My mom safe guards it. But she will give it to me one day. YOUNG RITA How cool. YOUNG RANUR So what about you? YOUNG RITA Huh? YOUNG RANUR Have you ever sat on your father’s throne when he wasn’t looking? YOUNG RITA (laughing) All the time! YOUNG RANUR You are the lucky one. YOUNG RITA How so? YOUNG RANUR One day, all this... will be yours. YOUNG RITA One day, you will become my servant. Young Ranur kneels. YOUNG RANUR Yes my queen. What do you command of me?
YOUNG RITA I want you to slay me a giant beast! YOUNG RANUR A beast your majesty? YOUNG RITA And make sure he is very big! YOUNG RANUR Um... how do propose me making a monster tall? YOUNG RITA With my wand of course! YOUNG RANUR Do you know where your dad keeps his wand? YOUNG RITA Um... They both look around. YOUNG RITA (CONT’D) I think we should stop playing. My dad will get mad if I touch the staff.
The two start walking around. YOUNG RITA (CONT’D) So how do you become a ranger? YOUNG RANUR Well, from what my mom told me, it’s different in each place. Here, the mantel of guardianship passes from parent to child. My family has served yours since the dawn of the empire. YOUNG RITA Really!? INT. RANGER TRANING FACILITY, TRAINING ARENA Kid Ji meets in the center of the room with the other KIDS (Ranger Trainees) KID JI I wish you all luck. Kid Ji poses for battle. YOUNG RANUR (V.O.) In earth, they are picked from birth due to their genes.
The kids stare at each other with total seriousness. KID JI Begin! KIDS (battle scream) They charge each other. MONTAGE of them hitting each other... violent lifestyle for children. Only KID SAL and Kid Ji Remain. KID JI Again I guess. KID SAL I fell one. And you? KID JI The other two.
The fallen children are in pain, leaving the field of battle. KID SAL Perhaps this is the day I best you? KID JI Don’t bet on it Sal. I am training to be Leader Red...because I am the best. KID SAL They misjudged your potential. KID JI Zero losses...and you? Kid Sal charges. INT. SEV’S HOUSE Kid Sev is going to sleep. YOUNG RANUR (V.O.) And on Mars, they hold special schools to replace those who retire. YOUNG RITA (V.O.) What does that mean? YOUNG RANUR (V.O.) When one is no longer a Ranger, some new guy is selected through school to take his place. YOUNG RITA (V.O.) Sounds boring. Kid Sev opens his eyes. He smiles. He looks to his hand. He imagines a Ranger glove where his childlike hand is. INT. UNION HALL A man is running. He opens the door, and inside are all the world electives. There is a globe of Planet Earth. ZORDON I have news. UNION OFFICIAL Who is this?
LOFI Greetings Zordon. What brings you to this hall? UNION OFFICIAL So this is Zordon? LOFI Cheif analyst. ZORDON I see... so they beleive me. LOFI We got the call this morning. Aparently they wish for you to discuss your news with all of us. UNION OFFICIAL I do not see what could be so important to call all of us, just to hear what an analyst has to say. UNION OFFICIAL 2 I agree. My people are starving. There are rumors of a tribe war, yet I am here. I do not see what can be so important. UNION OFFICIAL 3 It was my call. I called this meeting. UNION OFFICIAL 2 You? UNION OFFICIAL 3 Zordon was sent on a secret mission. I read his initial findings and found them to be of great importance. Does anyone feel I have a lack of good judgment? UNION OFFICIAL Is this why Leader Red of the Ranger unit is here? LOFI I only heard there was a grave matter that could concern my duties. UNION OFFICIAL Very well. Let us hear. ZORDON Your Greats. Ahem. EXT. SPACE, MARTIAN SHIPYARD There is a giant fleet assembling. ZORDON (V.O.) Two years ago we started an organization that was built on the off chance of an alien attack from either the Moon, Mars, or some other location. We started with little funding as any threat was considered non existant. A giant warship flies by. EXT. MARS, ARMY BARRACKS - DAY Soldiers are standing in file. ZORDON (V.O.) I have confirmation...that the Empire of Mars is mass producing its armed forces. A Tank like vehicle is getting boarded. There are an array of Tanks moving around, in formation. UNION OFFICIAL 2 (V.O.) What is so special about this? ZORDON (V.O.) We also have evidence that they are expanding a weapon stockpile and... They are trying to create Zords. (A chatter has started) PICTURE OF AN OUTLINE FOR SOME ZORDS UNION OFFICIAL Zords? ZORDON Reverse engineering of the zords our Rangers use. UNION OFFICIAL 2 They can be reverse engineered? ZORDON I do not know how well, considering all our technological advances, we have yet to crack the designs, their structures, or the materials required to make more Zords. It was commonly thought that the Zords the Rangers control are the only working models. Whatever created them, did not intend for there to be others. LOFI But you said they were attempting to reverse engineer them. Is it possible? ZORDON Leader Red! Sorry, I do not know how to adress you. Um, can they make another of your zords? I don’t know. But these designs, I saw one of them... I do not know how they can apply the proper science, the specs are there. UNION OFFICIAL 3 If they were to successfully build such weapons, how long would this take? ZORDON Years. The material to make something that big, the power required, and the correction for any flaws...it would take years to build. But... UNION OFFICIAL 3 But? ZORDON I think if anyone can do it, they can. You see, my other data finding is that... right now, Mars has the technological advantage.
There is a big murmor in the audiance. UNION OFFICIAL 3 How can you be so certain? ZORDON I ran simulations of their ships, their specs against ours. We lose. UNION OFFICIAL 2 And what makes you think Mars is a threat? ZORDON An increase into production of arms and technology can only mean one thing... Invasion. LOFI Why would they want to invade Earth? ZORDON That I do not know. INT. MARTIAN WAR ROOM A group of officers are standing around a holograph of ships and things. `MARTIAN OFFICER The stats are coming along good so far? MARTIAN GENERAL Yes, plans are in motion, if we keep progressing at this rate, all will be well. `MARTIAN OFFICER What of Duke Fantasmas? MARTIAN GENERAL He is just a small fry wanting attention. ` MARTIAN OFFICER But he could spoil our plans. MARTIAN GENERAL I garentee he wont be a factor in the big picture. We already have contigencies. `MARTIAN OFFICER And the zords? MARTIAN GENERAL Titanis should be completed in ten years provided we can crack the energy source problem. Zoom out too... MARTIAN FLEET Pause as we see a mass armada of ships. Zoom out even further to... EXT. GRASSLANDS - NIGHT Kid Ji and Kid Murista are staring at the moon. Lofi is behind them. LOFI You show improvement my children. KID MURISTA You think so? LOFI Your instructor told me so. KID JI How much longer? LOFI Hm? KID JI How much longer until we become rangers. LOFI When you earn it. KID JI I haven’t earned it yet? LOFI You focus too much on winning, you can never see whats infront of you. Look at the moon, what do you see? KID JI The Kingdom of the... LOFI Until you see otherwise, you are not ready. Lofi walks away. Kid Murista smiles at Kid Ji. KID MURISTA You know, Sal was kinda brutal on me when we fought. KID JI Do you get tired of all this fighting? KID MURISTA Why is it, you never challenge me to a fight? I see you fight Sal, alot, sometimes the others... KID JI You want to spar against me? KID MURISTA No... KID JI Its because, I enjoy these moments. KID MURISTA Huh? KID JI This... They look up to the moon. KID MURISTA You know, Cora and Roshali, they kind of are inseparable. KID JI Two tomboys. KID MURISTA Yeah...tomboys. Sal... he is kind of a loner...like you. KID JI A loner... KID MURISTA Yeah, I mean you two have alot in common, I think he more tries to emulate you. KID JI I don’t see it. I don’t see what Master, Leader Red Lofi sees. She leans on him, points up to the moon. KID MURISTA Beauty. You are supposed to see beauty. The world we live in, its beautiful. She smiles at him. He just looks back, confused, devoid of heart, but he nodds. KID JI I guess you are right. A wind comes, the grass moves, as does their hair, and they share more silence. EXT. MOON PALACE Young Rita is staring at Earth. YOUNG RITA It’s so beautiful. I’d like to walk there one day. YOUNG LAMI When you are queen...you can do anything. YOUNG RITA Where did you come from? YOUNG LAMI Ranur wants to know where you are, she is looking for you. YOUNG RITA Heh, she is eager to please. YOUNG LAMI They tell me she is basically locked up all day doing training. YOUNG RITA Let’s... YOUNG RANUR There you guys are! They look to see her running after them. YOUNG RITA You found me. YOUNG RANUR It’s actually something I think is serious. YOUNG RITA What? YOUNG RANUR I found this weird creature stalking the halls. YOUNG RITA Stalking the halls? They go to look. Cut to a montage of scenes. Rita is looking over the fields as monsters (Clay Race) are tilling the fields. YOUNG RITA (CONT’D) What are they father? KING They are our subjects. We call them Moonrace but technically, they are Clayrace. YOUNG RITA I don’t understand... Inside the alchemy chamber, FINSTER,a monster is making things with some sort of Clay. FINSTER We beleive all things come from the great clay, it was imbued with a great magic. And thus all of us were born. Young Rita is looking at a monster work hard. YOUNG RITA Are they happy? QUEEN They are nothing more with slaves, designed to have no free will of their own. Cut to a human whipping and verbally assualting a monster. PERSON You worthless...I will have you work until you drop. You are supposed to be stronger than this! YOUNG RITA Stop! PERSON Who dares. Young Rita, standing tall, knowing no fear, like a god. PERSON (CONT’D) Princess... YOUNG RITA I will not have you treat this creature in such a manor. PERSON But... YOUNG RITA It displeases me to be exposed to such vulgarity and you shall stop it this instance, or I shall have to report your insult to me to my father... PERSON But... YOUNG RITA I am the princess, you are but a subject, you will do as I say. He stops. The monster...head lowered, lets an eye look to Young Rita, she seems to share a compassionate smile, and she nodds. KING (Voice Only) Being’s with out souls, designed by our magic to serve. Young Rita can be seen talking to her dad. YOUNG RITA But, I hear they worship the great clay like a religion... KING In secret they are allowed worship but that is because they know where they come from. They also revere the wand, the source of all magic in this realm. Cut to...scenes of Young Rita walking among, talking and being merry with the monsters. YOUNG RITA (to one of them) When I am queen, you will never have to work again.
Cut to Young Rita talking to Finster. YOUNG RITA (CONT’D) I hear you called Clayrace and Moonrace. Whats the difference? FINSTER Well, you see, we are technically Moonrace, but we are born from Clay. However, those who are born between us... YOUNG RITA You can have children? FINSTER Some can, but it’s illegal. Our children and us would be executed if we were to do so. YOUNG RITA Why? FINSTER A first generation Moonrace, has free will. They are quiet strong and they have no reason to answer to the royal family or the humans. YOUNG RITA So why do they reproduce then? FINSTER It’s the nature of all things to continue the lineage of the species. Just because we are made, and have no free will, doesnt mean we aren’t driven to leaving a legacy. Finster goes back to work. YOUNG RITA How...sad. Back to . INT. HALLWAY, MOON PALACE YOUNG LAMI I think it went in here. INT. KITCHEN Young Goldar, a scruffy looking juvinile monster, with black fur is breathing heavily as guards pass by. GUARDS I saw it go this way! He looks scared. Young Rita and her entourage come in. YOUNG RITA Let’s get some snacks. I am kinda hungry. YOUNG LAMI You are so always hungry. YOUNG RANUR Comfort food... Young Goldar slips something. The humans and the monster meet eyes. Eyes go wide and then... Flash to. Young Goldar has sprouted wings and is hiding ontop of the cabinet. PUTTIES and Guards are in the room trying to take him down. YOUNG GOLDAR I...I don’t want to die. GUARDS You stupid putties, tear down the cabinet. Young Goldar flies to the chandelier in the room. Instantly Young Ranur is shielding Young Rita, like she was trained for this moment. YOUNG RANUR I can get him down. YOUNG RITA What are you doing? Spoiling my food like this!? GUARDS He is Moonrace! We must execute him. YOUNG RITA Not infront of me! GUARDS Okay, drag him... YOUNG RITA You will not lay a single finger on his fur! YOUNG RANUR But Princess... The two stare at one another. He is just a child, half clothed, like a street urchin. YOUNG RITA He amuses me. Plus he is clay race. GUARDS He is what!? YOUNG RITA Finster made him for me, we were playing a game of hide and seek! Young Ranur just looks at Young Rita in suprise. GUARDS But. YOUNG RITA I WILL NOT HAVE YOU CALL ME A LIAR! They are frozen in fear. She points, and being that she is of royal blood, the putties skulk away. YOUNG RITA (CONT’D) I am hungry and your faces are ruining my appetite, leave now! The guards just stand there. YOUNG RANUR I beleive the princess said leave. They slowly walk away. The door closes. YOUNG LAMI You know, moonrace, your kind of cute. He just stares down. YOUNG RITA You can come down now. As long as you stand by me... YOUNG RANUR I however am well equipped to kill you without a hesitation. Goldar’s wings go back into his back, and he drops down. He bows. YOUNG RITA Stand up. He instantly hugs her. YOUNG GOLDAR Oh thank you! I did not want to die. I did not want to die. I am in your debt so much... Young Rita is being crushed under his pressure. YOUNG RITA You’re too strong.... He lets go. Young Ranur just glares. YOUNG GOLDAR I am Goldar. Young Lami runs her fingers through his fur. He just looks back. YOUNG RITA I am Princess Rita. This is my guardian and friend Ranur, Future Guardian Green. YOUNG LAMI And I am Lami. INT. THRONE ROOM, MOON PALACE The family is gathering. Goldar, now dressed in high groomed atire is walking ahead into the room. YOUNG GOLDAR The Princess is on her way. Young Goldar walks tall to his corner of the room. Montage of monsters talking in different locations. MONSTER 1 That one, he is a real moonrace. First generation. MONSTER 2 She spared his life and now he is her personal valet. MONSTER 3 He only answers to the princess, no one can tell him what to do. MONSTER 4 She saved his life. MONSTER 5 She wants to set us free... Back to the throne room.
SQUATT (Monster, short stubby) Enters.
SQUATT Nobles and Ladies, the King and Queen of the Moon. The King and Queen come out, royally elegant, there is the proper reception as they take their throne. The humans and the monsters servants and such act their own ways. YOUNG GOLDAR The Royal Princess Rita. Young Rita enters the room. All the monsters in the room instantly bow on one knee. Instantly all the humans in the room, especially the King and Queen freeze. The King looks around, is this the start of a rebellion? Young Rita walks by the long hall, oblivious to the unusual reception she is getting. The monsters standing after she passes. She stands by her parents, smiles and the camera zooms out at this strange picturesque scene and fade out. BLACKNESS Sounds of a kid crying. Lightning flashes and... EXT. STREETS OF MARS, NIGHT, ALLEYWAYS. Kid Sev is cryng. He looks up, and.. His head slams back into the wall via a brutal kick to his face. CRUEL ONE Get up Sev! CRUEL KID Yeah, get up. And stop running like a coward. CRUEL ONE We saw you looking at her. CRUEL KID You disgust her. CRUEL ONE Your are too weak. A flash of lightning and Kid Sev is up, attacking. He tries to tackle Cruel One, but Cruel one just elbows his kidneys. Kid Sev screams. Kid Sev starts uppercuting, repeatedly Cruel One in his unmentionable areas. Kid Sev screams as he uses leverage to lift his foe and Cruel One falls down. KID SEV I am not too weak. Do you know who you are talking to?
He is breathing like a rabbid monster. Cruel Kid just puts a step back. CRUEL KID Sev, you are just a runt... KID SEV I can go where I want. I can talk to who I want. And I can be a warrior of mars if I so please! Girl comes. GIRL What are you three doing? Kid Sev loosens his anger. CRUEL KID Until next time Sev. GIRL Can you two stop picking on him? Cruel Kid and Cruel One retreat behind the girl. GIRL (CONT’D) And you, Sev. Can you stop antagonizing them? It hurts like a dagger. He looks down in defeat.
GIRL (CONT’D) (walking away) I swear, you are all immature. KID SEV (to self) One day, I will be good enough... He looks at his time, and realizes he is late! He starts to run when... Transition to. EXT. MARTIAN WASTLELAND - AFTERNOON Sev, now an adult, runs and braces a trench wall. He is in combat gear. This is the scene of a battle. Random fire is lighting up the sky as there is a massive fortress miles away, watching over the field ominiously. Sev is flanked by other soldiers wearing the same colors and uniforms. Subtitle: Duke Phantasmas Rebellion Day 4. He looks up and instantly fire comes his way. A sound of a whistle. MARTIAN SOLDIER I think they are retreating. SEV What are our orders? MARTIAN LIUTENANT Blue team is trying to hold the ground from any push. But we got word that the Duke and his escorts are trying to make a run for it. CAL How are they going to make a run, don’t we have the entire province surrounded? Above the sky, the clouds have been thick. A squadron of small ships (Fighters) are moving into formation when a giant set of lasers blast from the heavens. MARTIAN LIUTENANT What the? Massive fire starts raining down. A series of ships, Capital class, start to descend. CAL Oh no. They have backup. Soldiers start to look solemn in the trench. INT. DUKE PHANTAMAS CASTLE The inside of the Castle has turned into a military base. The Duke is walking through this communication center. OPERATOR Our fleet has arrived sir. DUKE PHANTAMAS I knew they would come. We see a giant map showing the war situation. Red Triangles flank the war region, in the center the castle. Above, in space we see a series of red triangles converging on the right to the blue triangles. The enemy has them surrounded and is about to block them in from space. DUKE PHANTAMAS (CONT’D) Who leads the incoming fleet to attack us? OPERATOR Duke Gorin my lord. DUKE PHANTAMAS That traitor! He punches a wall. OPERATOR My lord? DUKE PHANTAMAS This entire thing has been for nothing. Duke Phantamas contemplates the futulity of all of past efforts. OPERATOR We can still escape, we have time. DUKE PHANTAMAS Have the dread ships keep them off us, prepare my ship. We have lost this war. EXT. MARTIAN WASTLELAND Sev and Cal are standing guard outside a tent. Sargeant steps out. MARTIAN SARGEANT Troop three!
Sev and Cal stand tall in salute. CAL What are the words? MARTIAN SARGEANT We advance. CAL Sir we cant get troops near the front line without them being decimated. MARTIAN SARGEANT Private Cal, we advance. We still have a sky port under our control, we are to see if we can get a shuttle through and break this stalemate. The main fleet is falling back waiting for Zedd’s arival. CAL Lord Zedd? MARTIAN LIUTENANT Aparently boys, the son of the great Duke is looking for a chance to prove himself and show up at the last minute with his personal flagship. I however do not wish to wait for some brat to hold victory hostage. Your team is to run to the port, and we are going to have the other two squads try and do the same. CAL Is this not just us sending men to slaughter? MARTIAN LIUTENANT We need to win. We need this war over, and it needs to be won by her people, not her royalty. INT. MARTIAN COUNCIL ROOM An old man, with a regal countenance, F. RED is talking to the council of ministers. MINISTER 1 Do you see now why the situation is grave? F. RED I do. DUKE GORIN My son and his forces are on their way as we speak. This war will be over in a few hours. I do not see why we must ask the Rangers to intervene. MINISTER 2 The war will be won, but how many people are we going to lose over it? You and the other rangers have the power to end this war now, without any further casualties? Why are our protectors remaining neutral in such a grave matter for Mars? DARK YELLOW (stepping forward) Our leader has told us that we are neutral. We are neutral. MINISTER 1 How can you protect Mars if you are neutral to a civil war? F. RED The Rangers have no interest in politics. MINISTER 2 Politics!? That's what you call this? F. RED Our sons are fighting this is true, and in my heart I want them to live to see tomorrow. I want a bright future for our people. MINISTER 1 Then how can you condone this? You are a disgrace? You could have ended this war before it started! F. RED My Lords, if we can keep having wars, without people dying. War without casualties on the side that beleives it to be right, then war, becomes economical. No different than taking what you want because you want it. Duke Phantamas, two days before declaring independance from the empire, complained of corruption and evil within these chambers. This war, it stinks of personal interests and you must know, it must be known, that war must have a price. It must be so steep that any level of declaration of it in the future is made with reserve and a heavy heart. That is where we stand. Instantly everyone starts shouting condemning the old man. DARK PINK Is this the right choice leader? F. RED It may cost me my soul, but I believe it to be so.
The Dark Rangers and the old man walk away. MONTAGE OF THE BATTLE GOING IN THE PROVINCE Two tanks are blown up. The Imperical soldiers try to sally forth but are cut down by a rebel holding a turret. The ships above are fighting eachother with the main defensive formation holding, and the attacking line crumbling. The Capital ships are winning. INT. MARTIAN SKY PORT - EVENING Three squads are formed outside of shuttles. MARTIAN LIUTENANT This is the plan, teams one and two, you will be joining the main assault to get past their line of defense. The Main fleet will be here in a couple of hours but I will not leave our troops to die until back up. Niether will the General. Cal and Sev are part of team 3. MARTIAN LIUTENANT (CONT’D) I am sorry Team 3. SEV Sir? MARTIAN LIUTENANT Your job, is to attempt to board Dread 1, and cause chaos. You're a distraction to better the chances of the other teams making it through. Silence. SEV We are to take the ship? CAL We are a distraction? MARTIAN SARGEANT (with gutsy gusto) We will take the ship and have it provide support! MARTIAN LIUTENANT I will hold you to that promise. General says the empire is to take back the rebel castle before Zedd gets here! Let them see our strength? CAL The Rangers? Pause MARTIAN LIUTENANT What? CAL Were we not petitioning them for support? Will we receive it? MARTIAN LIUTENANT The Rangers, they are not going to come. We are soldiers, we need to earn the right to hold our head high. We can’t rely on the protectors of the planet to fight our battles. INT. SHUTTLE Team Three is sitting in the shuttle as we can see the expanded battle below. CAL Taking out a Dread? Never thought I would see the day. SEV Me either. CAL We are going to be able to brag about this one when it is done. SOLDIER 1 This is going to be the stuff of legends. SOLDIER 2 I hear that. COMS (V.O.) We are facing more resistance, we cant make it through. Sound of static. PILOT Team One is down. EXT. SHUTTLE It is facing heavy fire but it is bobbing and weaving as it gets close to the Capital Ship. It takes two hits , it is a burning fireball but then it covers itself in gas that extinguishes the flame. The ship is damaged and ugly but still moving forward. INT. CAPITAL DREAD BRIDGE REBEL OFFICER We have a ship incoming. CAPTAIN FROCH I did not think they would try to board us with out air superiority. Have all troops minus the gunners to repel boarders. REBEL OFFICER It’s coming in too fast, it wont be able to dock! EXT. SHUTTLE The ship is going full thrust in and managers to get through a wave of fire, it then sets a series of counter thrusts to change its trajectory. It fires a missile, breaking the hull of the Dread then plunges in. INT. SHUTTLE The ship lights go out and the impact is horrendous. Lights go on and everyone is barely alive. INT. CAPITAL DREAD ROOM Troops are running around, getting guns and getting into position. INT. SHUTTLE CRASH SITE Squad Three comes out and the fight instantly lights up the room. Casualties start mounting and by the time Sev and Cal come out, taking two out each, they look at the rest of their numbers, from 13 down to 5. MARTIAN SARGEANT We are to find the weapons room and take it out, then the bridge. We can do this if we stay focused. Cut to. INT. INTERROGATION ROOM Sev is in uniform sitting on a chair. SEV We got hit with heavy fire down the main corridor, it was the last I saw my friend Cal. But we managed to hold the line. Then, we got seperated. INTEROGATOR And then? SEV The Dread, she got hit with heavy fire. Two other parties boarded but ultimately... INTEROGATOR You were the last one standing. Squad Three survived through you alone. SEV I was making my way through a vent, to the bridge. Cut to. INT. CAPITAL DREAD BRIDGE The Captain is the last one standing in a room of dead bodies. CAPTAIN FROCH Report. Report? Is anyone on this ship alive? The door opens. Sev stares, his eyes are sad. SEV Surrender your ship. CAPTAIN FROCH No. I cannot do that. And who are you to tell me to do that? A private? SEV (putting his gun away) I don’t want to shoot you. CAPTAIN FROCH The ship, she still has life in her and I can still use some of the guns from the deck. Go home. SEV My name is Sev. Not Private. CAPTAIN FROCH I am Captain Froch. It is nice to meet you Sev. Captain Froch puts his arms in a battle ready stance. SEV Like true soldiers? CAPTAIN FROCH Take my ship from me if you can. The camera circles the two as Sev curiously walks to the center of the bridge. SEV I perfer this way over guns any day. They jump for eachother, but the Captain shows his experiance, dodges and sweeps Sevs leg. He goes to kick his face but Sev moves. Sev tackles the Captain to a work station and starts hammering at his kidnseys. The Captain grabs Sevs attacking wrist and elbows him to the face. Sev reels back and the Captain, with composure walks forward. The Captain grabs Sev’s attempt to punch him in the face and then the captain kicks him in the shin. Sev moves back again and the Captain is in his face and slaps him down with his entire palm. Sev answers back with an uppercut. Now the captain reels back. Sev Feints for the captains face, Captain goes to block, but Sev instead kicks down hard on the Captain’s knee. Sev follows it up with an elbow across the Captains face. Captain is down on one knee and Sev keeps punching him in the same kidney over and over. Captain stands up and round house kicks his way to clear Sev Away from him. Sev successfully dodges. Sev comes in with another feint to the face. The Captain puts his guard up. Sev leaps in the air in slow motion does a spinning jump kicks the Captain’s kidney again. The Captain takes a step forward then all at once the give hits him, and he collapses. CAPTAIN FROCH (trying to move on the floor) You’re good. Sev jumps to the turret controls. He looks at the screen and inputs a command. CAPTAIN FROCH (CONT’D) You wouldn’t. SEV This war needs to end now. I take no joy in this. The screen shows that the ship is now targeting another Dread. EXT. CAPITAL DREAD It instantly starts firing on an ally ship. INT. CAPITAL DREAD HALLWAY Sev is running. Explosions are rocking the ship. EXT. CAPITAL DREAD The two capital ships are firing at each other as they get in close. INT. CAPITAL DREAD HALLWAY SEV (V.O.) The Battle with Captain Froch made it hard for me to run. But I figured the ship was going to go down sooner rather than later. I need to find an escape. The Captain, perhaps with a sense of honor, told me where the emergency craft would be. Sev sees the ship room. EXT. CAPITAL DREAD The ship suffers one more explosion and is about to go down. It makes a dying sound as we see a lone aircraft run out like a small insect from the dying base. INT. ESCAPE SHIP Sev is watching the battle unfold and he can see the specs become blurs, then become people in detail as he successfully is able to land the ship, poorly, behind allied lines. SEV (V.O.) The push was a success. Had it not been, I would have landed in enemy territory, but our troops were able to break their formation and that is why I am alive. EXT. ESCAPE SHIP Sev comes out, he sees his side walk past him as the next wave is going to head to the front line. It feels like he is not apart of that scene or world. SEV (V.O.) The Royal fleet arrived in time. I was told that they cut off the Duke’s escape and he was captured. INT. INTEROGATION ROOM INTEROGATOR Many brave men died for that. SEV So why am I here? I was told all the official investigations were over. INTEROGATOR You defied odds and survived what was clearly a suicide mission. You took down a Dread ship and provided massive assistance to our space and ground effort by diverting the attack of another. I have news to tell you that will become big in the coming days. INT. RANGER TRANING FACILITY Ji, now an adult is practicing his kata. SAL (walking in) Leader Red. Ji does a few more moves. SAL (CONT’D) Ji. Ji turns around. He is holding his leg in the air from the last move. He then slowly puts it down. SAL (CONT’D) News from mars. JI Mars?
The other Rangers, (the kids training, now adults) run into the room. CORA What is this? I was told this was a major top secret announcement? MURISTA Still practicing Ji? SAL We have news that the Red Ranger from Mars...has stepped down.
INT. INTEROGATION ROOM SEV Stepped down? INTEROGATOR We are running a system to find potential replacements. Slow zoom into Sevs face. INTEROGATOR (CONT’D) How would you like to be a candidate to become Leader Red of Mars? © 2015 Daniel RodriguezAuthor's Note
