Shadows turned to Light

Sorry for the huge wait on my poetry. I kinda got out of it it seems, but i hope to be coming back and writing alot more.

It's a merciless world
That we all do share
You can walk the hard road
Or you can give up on it without a care

All to often
I do hear the sounds
Of people in need
It hits my heart with great pounds

They stand in the shadows
Unnoticed and unloved
Sometimes they try to come out
Only to be greeted with pushes and shoves

I used to be like them
The weak for whom I pray
I used to cry and cry
And want to get away

I wanted to go
To a place of great joy
Where I would be loved
And not treated as a stupid toy

And then I realized
I was the one to blame
I had given up to easily
I had put myself to shame

I needed to stand out
And stand up for my life
To embrace a new journey
And to throw away all the strife

To be free from this torture
To break out of my shell
To finally find love and happiness
And get out of that hell

So I did it and I stood up
I threw away my old ways
And now I encourage you
To come out of that haze

So If its a friend you need
Then a friend you shall get
Ill gladly come to your aid
And take any hits

So if your in the shadows
And you want to get out
Just come up to me
And I'll help you without a doubt

Very well written and thought provoking! Empathy isn't an emotion found in too many people, leaving the ones in need of it to suffer from the lack of it. Just some thoughts that popped into my head after reading, good job!

I love the message and i relate to it so much!
I feel like you tried so hard to get the message across while trying to the make it rhyme at the same time, and I sort of got lost kind of in the middle but then picked up again.
I recommend free-verse poetry as a different genre to try out.
