Seeing You Again

Seeing You Again

A Poem by Destiny Glenn

Why am I so anxious?

I’ve met you before!

Is it because of the eyes,

The hair,

The laugh,

The connection?

I am quite obsessed with that.

We’ll be breathing the same air…

All in each others bubble…

Smiles won’t go down!

As we see we’ve both grown up a little.

What if you want more than I can handle?

What if you see I’ve lost of my specialties?

This takes way too much energy.

God, please let me faint.

Everything could go oh so wrong!

Um, what if my pants fall?

That has happened before…

Oh boy, do I have a lot to think about!

Maybe I should just tuck it away for now;

Just until the day is a tad bit closer.

Besides, it is a month away.

I think I’ll go have me some cake.

This is great. I like the rambling journey it takes us on, then ending with a perfect playful escape. I cannot tell what this line is referring to: "I am quite obsessed with that." . . . And there seems to be something awkward about this line: "What if you see I’ve lost of my specialties?"

It's been a very long time since I've felt all fluttery & jittery about meeting anyone, even an old love, but I do remember feeling this way, long ago, once upon a time. It has a very immature, insecure feel to it, but not in a ridiculous way, but in a natural way, for a younger person without self-assurance. I like that the insecurities you bring up ("What if you want more than I can handle?") are realistic, yet not cliché. I like the surprising little blurt-outs: "God, please let me faint." . . . all in all, very original.

Wonderful execution; I picture the speaker as an anxious young teenager. Reminds me of meeting up with my husband; when we were in high school
