A Fungus That Binds

A Fungus That Binds

A Poem by T. N. Hodges

I remember moments in the grass
and forgiveness that wasn't deserved
Times that I was naked
and covered in bug bites
Your look-
it never changed
and when I felt estranged
you held me in a feather down embrace
to ease my shaking
Must you forgive a creator
when they pluck the birds from view?
As I get older
love seems less genuine
Replacing a dwindling hope
of seeing nebulae in her eyes
and swimming in the ceiling
Desperation flutters
through sweating palms, but-
I can't concentrate
while the snow is breathing
