Back home blues ~ Liverpool

Back home blues ~ Liverpool

A Poem by Dianah
"

Inspired by an old Blues Club in Hope St Liverpool (and unemployment)

"

On the waterfront waiting in Brando's head
While Scavenging hyenas laugh in my ear
Fighting for seagull's scraps I fill with dread.
Then drown my sorrows in stale warm beer.

The docks have dried up like yesterdays tears
I go home to Copy cats in my basement flat
The blues still follow me after all these years.
I dream of smokey nightclubs and fancy spats.

The gambler said I got nothing to lose.
He said let it all out til your lungs are spent
I sat in a corner in my shiny new shoes
exorcising my spirits with last weeks rent.

So I'll sing for my supper and breakfast too
and pray that  my voice will cut like a knife
through the smoke in a Hope Street basement,
I'm  just dying to make a decent life.
