A Poem by Dianne S Penfold
"

This poem talks about how materials things cannot bring true happiness. It depicts a man who has finally realized that, but alas it is too late.

"

At 3 am the tides grow small the world elopes with death and all,

The rising moon, an eerie grin, the sense of doom echoes within,

A cursed ballet, of love and loss. Eternally weeping you've paid the cost.

But for nothing your riches buy, no possession to hold nor her goodbye.

Your gold, your diamonds you threw in vain, all treasured things just bought you pain.

Her hands weren't made for holding those, nor gems or pearls, or shoes or clothes.

All she wanted were your words, your eyes to convey what only you could.

All she wanted was your heart, just simple, unbroken till death do you part.

At 4 am your world is dead, and her footsteps leaving resounds through your head.

'Your gold, your diamonds you threw in vain, all treasured things just bought you pain.'

That is a beautiful poetic sentence, conveying the wind nature of diamonds and gold; even though their shiny, solid and highly sought, their beauty can bring more pain than pleasure, as they are so idolized and are a source of conflicts of interest contributing to mass bloodshed on a global scale.

Diamonds and gold here are just the symbol for misplaced materialism, the vanity side of it; for as well as diamonds and gold many other things are a source of conflicts, compounding the existing materialist atmosphere, a factor that is so pervasive and swift.

To me, your poem, in its simple and skilful and effective depiction, point out to readers more life complexities to contemplate (through a bigger picture, outside the box unique perspective).

WELL DONE!!!!
