Painful Reflection

Painful Reflection

A Poem by D. Nelson
"

A soul trapped in the prison it built itself.

"

The infectious truth you wish you never knew;

no matter what you do “I love you too.

Starring at the perspective presented in your reflection,

searching your eyes for some new direction.

Wishing for that which you can't live without,

but all you see is now you hate yourself,

and you hate your cell,

and you hate the horse from which you fell.

You hate your life and you hate your mother,

and you hate your wife cause' you can't live without her.

You hope and scream that it's just a dream,

but you still can't escape what you've seen.

You can't erase the world you've built,

you can't run away from the floods of guilt,

and wish that God would just take you now,

cause' can't keep the heavy head that wears this crown.

Your mind is so heavy that your gonna drown,

so you turn the bass down; don't hear a sound,

thank yourself that your logic still aint around.

Starring at the perspective presented in your reflection,

searching your eyes for some new direction.

Wishing for that which you can't live without,

but all you see is now you hate yourself,

and you hate your cage,

and you hate the imaginary man up on the stage.

You hate your days and you hate your father,

he hurt you so much you wonder why you even bother.

You plead and beg that none of it's real,

but you can never run away from what you feel.

All you had is who you were;

now it's lost in with everything else that you gave to her.

You wish you drink and sniff away the hurt,

you wish you had some authority to assert

and you wish you could blame anyone else,

but every time you look you see your self.

You're mad cause' you can't figure it out,

sitting in bed every night thinking how you want to go out;

maybe a bullet through the head or a slit wrist blood flow out on to the bed.

You pray to god to find the way,

but you only further strayed,

you try to blame the hate away,

but you always knew the truth;

that it was you who led the way.

Presented with the infectious truth you wish you never knew,

that no matter how far you run you love her too.

Once again Dillon, you have crafted the dialogue of heart and thought that is difficult to do. When I read your work, it usually feels as if you have spoken a spirit. I don't know if that makes sense or not, but what I mean is -- we all have trains of thought that trigger emotions -- and more thoughts -- which are silently moving us (or not) daily. They are hard to put into words, sometimes nearly impossible. You do it with ease... and you give the reader an understanding and for some you offer familiarity.

Great job!!
