Zaitsev

Zaitsev

A Poem by D. Nelson
"

This is dedicated the the WWII Russian Sniper, Vassili Zaitsev - Responsible for the deaths of over 500 Nazi and other Axis soldiers.

"

A cold day breaches the senses.

Fear stricken through the hearts of men,

fear not of the raging battle around them,

fear not of the war that engulfs the world,

fear of a single man and that mans rifle.

They know he scans their trenches,

he watches carefully and he waits,

his cold determination, palpable in the air,

mercy; not a facet of his thought process.

Evil lurks in these fields he knows.

He intends to strike it down.

A dark entity of hate he battles.

He intends to defeat it.

Blood stained snow is the marker,

and the scent of rot filling the air,

Let all those who fight for daggers know;

this is the land of hell.

Death awaits them here.

- Vassili Zaitsev had a confirmed kill count of 225 by the end of 1942, and had killed another 242 Axis Soldiers by January of the next year, as well as 32 other soldiers and officers, and others undefined. By the end of WWII, Zaitsev had killed over 500 enemy combatants. The men that he trained would go on to kill

3000 more.

the poem gave me chills. it is very passionate in the way that it is writen.

the best lines from the poem. i love anything about victory when defeat seems the only thing.

smashing writing!
