Encaged

Encaged

A Poem by Dixie Slaughter

The en-caged bird
is as lonely as the last leaf on an oak tree
at the end of fall.
It's songs are no longer
carried by the wind
for its voice is restrained by it's own mind.
That bird is nothing
but an antique sitting in a cage.

A very interesting take on a caged bird. I do view a bird to be very lonely and sad when it is in a cage, especially if they were once free. I am sure they would be lost in their own minds dreaming to fly free again and leave the cage life behind.

Great Job

Wow, you really captured the mindset of the bird through a great metaphor. Really liked this.

I agree. Powerful use of words and thoughts. Left the reader with a vision of a prison with no escape. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
