Why Do You Lie

Why Do You Lie

A Poem by Donna G. Cooper
"

A poem inspired by actual events.

"

Why do you lie

and expect me to trust again

When I found out the truth I knew

Had never really been.

Why do you lie

and expect me to forgive

When my world was upended

and I was afraid to even live.

Why do you lie

and still ask for my love

When thats all I ever gave you

Yet you reigned down on me from above.

Your love is worthless to me

Mine, destroyed by every breath

You used against my every thought

Until my only thought was death.

Yours or mine, it didn't matter which

As long as the fear you nurtured inside my mind

a frightening world by your design, was quieted

Till nothing remains of the love you maligned.

Oh I don't think it went in a weird direction at all. I think it expressed very well all the emotion of the trust betrayed. It is such a sick feeling.

The opening lines:

Why do you lie
and expect me to trust again
When I found out the truth I knew
Had never really been.

really set the tone so well. The feeling of the rug being pulled out from under you and sitting there on you a*s on the floor going "What the hell just happened?" That everything you believed in was a lie. You can almost feel the sting of it, the lingering pain that is imprinted.

I think this was an awesome poem woven with much emotion.

The weird direction was how your thoughts were going perhaps?

I think this poem shows love and hurt so very well, sadly.. but.. as a piece it's so well put together and, the end result's a peep into your heart and mind.
