Fishermen's Moonless Night, Drunken

Fishermen's Moonless Night, Drunken

A Poem by Stu. T.H.
"

Inspired by Tilted to Red by author Chris Shaw on Writerscafe.org. A combination of a sonnet and a senryu.

"
Sonnet:
Allow me to tell you how,
We get drunk in the East,
Even under nights so foul,
We dine ourselves in feasts,

We have crabs, and crawfishes,
But the Moon rejects our company,
So we replace her with round dishes,
Those were finest grabs in our poverty,

The stars never lit our nights,
But the sea often gets drunk with us,
And she is always the best of sights,
With her nightgown, she fills me with lust,

Oh, the sailor's life, when your crewmates are fools,
Oh, the lovely nights, when the wind is so cool.

Senryu:
I have smelled the sea,
And I know that she likes me,
But I love her more.

Author's Note

Clocked at 20:37PM November 26, 2023. I had a good run this week with my works, being able to write so freely, it's fun. I have a lot of other pieces of writing unfinished, but... I'm in a middle of something by year's end, so I'm finishing them up. Thank you everyone for reading my moody, nonsensical work ~ !

Is it strange that I WANT to love the sea like you do? Sadly, the open waters of the ocean make me tense up. I don't have sea legs, and a nagging fear of horrors of the deep that would make Lovecraft weep. This is such a nice poem, though. The idea of sailing on open waters feels me with both excitement and dread. I'll adore the ocean from afar I suppose haha. This is a nice poem with a little tune going along with it. Perhaps a sea shanty?

If anyone knows any way to turn seawater into alcohol (without needing the help from Jesus), please let me know. I had an unsettled bet with a partner back then when we were youngsters about how seawater could be turned into alcohol... So, uh, please let me know if you have any idea how that'd work in my favour. Thank you for stopping by ~ !
