Why Forgiveness

Why Forgiveness

A Poem by Dr. Ann Lewis
"

Forgiveness

"

Feeling pain ...

Feeling mad and sad ...

Disappointed in who you are.

Discovering depression that pushes me away ...

Why forgiveness, I say?

Do you deserve my loyalty?

Should I stay and pray?

Scream, or silently walk away?

What is the way to forgiveness, I wonder.

As I experience, blunder after blunder.

Now, when I'm weak and sad,

I can make a decision that makes me glad!

Glad to be with this messy human being

Who finds it easy to be a screw-up in every scene.

What does it do for me, I wonder?

What makes me forgive each and every blunder?

I remember we have dreams together!

Enough reasons, these storms to weather.

I look at myself to see

How messy I, too, can be.

Somehow that honesty

... sets me free!

Loving another is forgiving them forever.

Through words and tears,

We squelch our fears

To walk side-by-side,

Despite our messy human pride.
