Olympia

A Poem by Dr. Virginia Patterson
"

During the "Occupy" movement, my husband and I were very active in Washington State. We lived in a shelter under a church at the time.

"

We stood on the corner of capital and 7th
And it was the first night of my life. A moonless clear and the sky was crying
Tears of starlight
Raining down on us
I said it was beautiful
And you said I made the world wonderful.
Its 10 pm in December
And im standing sleeveless
It's a cheap pizza place downtown
And they have painted the walls all fresh
Covering a thousand declarations
Of undying love
Random enlightenment can be  found under a few layers of cheap paint.
I wish I had my rain now
Under the street lamp of light blue within night
In a T-shirt
Soaking, smoking
Gray drops dripping from my hair
Down my neck
From my neck
Down my back
Until off my shoes to their drainage rivers
They leave me
And forget me
Until the next rain...
