Paeanistic Smile

Paeanistic Smile

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry
"

I don't know.

"

Nay, you cannot
Steal this smile –
This joyful, paeanistic smile –
From my face,
No matter how
Many kisses you
Plan to plant
Upon my lips
In an attempt
To usurp this
Happiness that dwells
Within my heart.
For stealing the
Lonely, the only
Smile that I have
Upon my visage
Would mean shattering
The mask that lies
Over my soul –
My tainted, irascible soul.
Though you know
That this joyful smile
Is not paeanistic at all,
You still attempt
To steal it away
With your lips –
Your cruel, unequivocal lips –
Because you know
That without my smile –
My deceptive, illusory smile –
I am merely a face –
Only a soul without
Anything to hold on to.
