Band-aid

Band-aid

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

You are my band-aid

For when I fall off of this

Everchanging, everswaying

Tettertottering seesaw

(Some like to call it “life”),

My special all-healing kiss

And band-aid for every

Situation I get into.

When I push myself

Just a little too high

On my swing that I love –

Which happens a little

Too often for my liking –

And end up scared because

The height is just too much

For me to handle,

You are the one

Who calmly tells me to just

JUMP

Enjoy the moment,

Forget my fears –

Have a smile,

Fight the tears.

When I’m swirling around

In my tireswing haze,

You are the one who

Grabs onto the ropes,

Pulling me to a stop so that

I can then be supported

By you, yet again,

As I stagger dizzily away.

When life turns into an

Endless game of tag,

With me always running away,

You are the one

Who catches me and

Makes me It so I am

Forced to run after my dreams

Instead of away from everything.

When I’m hiding,

You make me seek –

You always reach out your hand

For a (not so secret) handshake.

When there’s a threat of getting

Hit from a quick-moving

Rope, you are the one who

Tells me to GO,

Letting me know

That it is my turn

To jump in

(And out and all around)

And never forget that

You are my band-aid,

Kissing my pain away,

And making be better

From any kind of hurt.
