If I Missed You

If I Missed You

A Poem by David Scott
"

A longing... A heart cry.

"

If I missed you

Tactility would be numb,

feeling nothing beneath life’s nakedness;

while every brush tickles a promised caress,

flesh longing to be held

trembling in your arms.

Every morsel tasted would awaken my mouth,

watering these dry lips

confining my impatient tongue,

hungry to taste you again.

Fragrant, tangy bouquets might waft a memory lost

held in a subconscious void,

now piercing a vivid scent

transforming into a conscious need.

Music’s acoustic swing,

vibrations of sound

felt as much as heard,

could leave me quivering

as if your voice were still

a whisper in my ear.

Visions blinding the soul

softly bleeding colors contoured into one image;

focused on every line and curve

shadow or twinkled light,

squinting to catch a glimpse of  you.

I  would be a living sacrifice

undesiring of tastes or smells,

unfulfilled with sights, sound, or touch;

absent of you…

Your kiss would ignite the flame

consuming my soul’s poverty,

burning as incense

an offering to satisfy

the jealousy of my desire.

It's extremely beautiful how you sense and imagine how you'd feel if you lost the one you love, before doing so. This, to me, shows an appreciation for what you have and a gratitude in the moment. A stone in the palm of one's hand promises so much if only one would listen. Love, in the palm of your soul, is quenching. It drowns you but you are ever thirsty for more. Luxuriate in its bliss when you are able.

You are welcome David.
So sensual and erotic. It's an interesting perspective of gratitude here, as the title says 'if i missed you'. It's like you're seeing the meaning before the loss. Sometimes in life we don't get it until they are gone.

This erupted, then flowed, building fertile ground for your love to take root. In feeling...that's how it feels, to me. The conditions of our hearts desire appear as a question and end as a statement of mature and poetry. Loving someone else is really an act of self discovery. Example...beautiful example: "your kiss would ignite the flame Consuming my soul's poverty" . Beautiful!

Thank you Lynn. The last two stanzas hit home for me too.
The rhythm of the poem appeared rocky to me at first, but reading through it it makes sense for it to come off as such. Longing, desire, love or lust, they're all rather rocky emotions that we all brush upon. If they were meant to be smooth and easy to deal with, then no one would write about these such things as much as they do. My favorite part about this piece is the end. It wraps up so beautifully and I got a chill from it. This is some great work, David.

You Know David, every once in a while we write something that makes us re read our own work and find layers and layers of extreme crafted work that makes us ask ourselves' Did I write that?"
Surely this must be one of those times for you.

Brilliant ! It is filled with perfect one liners. You can be very proud! Esp. On this one!

There are words that are merely constructed.. there are words that stand forever.. and they inevitably belong to lovers, to love. Because.. because, however attractively they're displayed, what shines like a beacon is the lava-hot flow.

Love can make one lose everything
Literally one's sight
when you miss someone

You feel it all ..... then you give in to the feeling
feel the yearning and live with it

What else can one do

This is a stunning write
