Our Boys

Our Boys

A Poem by *Rain*
"

A poem I wrote (badly, sorry, lol) for our soldiers. Thank you for serving. I support YOU GUYS and GALS fully, if I do disagree sometimes with our government. You're in my thoughts. (And your families and loved ones, too)

"

Not so long ago, you were out causing problems with your friends…

Today, you are a million miles away fixing someone else’s problem.

Feels like just yesterday, we were all laughing about some silly thing or another…

Now we wait just for a few words on a piece of paper or a computer screen.

No more than months ago, you were “fighting” with someone over something random…

Tomorrow, you’ll go out and risk your life to fight for that person’s freedom.

A year ago, your biggest worry was who was gonna be your drinkin’ buddy that night…

Tonight, you say goodnight, hopin’ your buddy will be there the next night, too.

Just a while back, we knew where you were, confident of your general safety and happiness.

Not a day doesn’t go by now, that we don’t pray and cry, hope and dream that you are okay, wherever you are now.

But remember always as we say our prayers, and shed our tears, share our memories and hopes, that we are fiercely proud, too. We don’t say it enough, no one ever does, but we our more than happy to say you are our boys, too. You aren’t just fighting for them,  you’re fighting for us, too. So, while you’re out there, somewhere, following your commands, remember us, and your other orders: COME HOME SAFE!

Wow!!! You have written a great piece here! I don't give out generous praise easily, I usually wrap my comments in directional paths to follow. But in this case you have a finished piece able to frame. Please do frame it and take it to a VFW post near you, or go on Military.com and try to publish it there. It is well deserving the notice. I guess the highest praise I can give it is that it touches the veteran in me. We vets all wear a common badge and take criticisms seriously and praises thankfully. Thanks for all them.

p.s. sometimes polish is just the semantics of mechanics.

You know what Rain? YOU might consider this badly written and maybe it could use some polishing. But, you obviously wrote it from the heart and that means something. There are times when I think too many people turn a blind eye to the future these men are providing US.

I respect this piece. Thank you for writing it.

I am addicted to the written word, the spoken word, well, just words in general, quite really. I'm sarcastic, but I care. My writing is an outward expression of the thoughts that constantly tumble thr.. more..
