They Steal Our Lives

They Steal Our Lives

A Poem by Eldee
"

A rant against parents living their children's lives.

"

Ignorance, everyday, seems more prominent,
While impending doom lurks more definite.
But suppose, just once, they took a walk,
Instead of marking life with chalk,
They could stand back and reminisce
Realizing that I walk away not missed.

Parents, family, ‘know what is best’
Only to a certain extent,
For they only know one side of you
The other half has no cue.
Yet, hypocrites they will remain,
For they do not accept a demain.

It sickens me, and so I waste.
My creativity chokes on taste
Of this putrid dish of greed.
They want to live a life not seed
In decrepit and shame and ‘end’
So they take mine and send
One lost in worth in place of it.

My life looks back and pleas for help,
But what can I do? I’m but a welp,
Raised from the ashes of ‘Once ago
They had their life stolen as well.’

I found this to be a very complicated poem, which touches upon a wide range of different observations about barriers to creativity, the prevalence of ignorance today and how helpless we sometimes feel at the mercy of our family or elders. It was quite apt of Eldee to make use of the word "welp", and she does this effectively. Basically, it's another word for "child". She expresses a sense of helplessness in her role as a child. Having said that, she might not be using that word literally. Instead, Eldee might have chosen it simply to infer our relative weakness in youth.

A good, solid point you make.

Being a product of a father driven by popularity, I felt the close sting of relation in this. To this day I can't believe how hard I was pushed into sports (me being a bookworm with 2 left feet). Parent's don't realize how much it affects their children.

Thank you for this piece

Oh i liked this one! Well, I liked all of yours that I have read so far, but i especially like this one. Yes, let your children live their lives. They are not trophies.
