Over the Web

Over the Web

A Poem by Glorwen Helyanwe
"

A short story about one of my best friends, who I met online.

"
Hey
That's usually how they start
Our conversations
Which can last for hours on end

Through text and Skype
Which are our only means
But we don't mind
And we have fun anyway

I've cried on your virtual shoulder
And you've cried on mine
And we've shared many heartfelt talks
Sharing things that only best friends know

I hope to meet you in person
At least before too long
So that we can go places
Make memories

So that we can go to Comic Con
And loiter at the mall together
Talking loudly in the cinema
And eating junk food as we play Xbox

You one of the best friends
That I've ever had
And I've never even met you in person
And that's saying something.

The power of the web is quite amazing. It's a whole new world, and like the 'real' world, it is both fascinating and complex, and of course, sometimes not all that it seems. Face to face is how we humans best interact, go places, make those memories that last, but the web has opened up possibilities that we never previously had. Enjoy your new friend and may you one day meet. T

I have a few friends like this and it's wonderful how strong your relationship can be with someone even though no matter what happens they count as a stranger until knowing them in the real world, meeting them face to face in flesh and blood. I love how perfectly and honestly you've captured your friendship.
