The Lake

The Lake

A Poem by Glorwen Helyanwe
"

Summer memories...

"
Every summer we went
To the lake, where we owned a home

We would spend a week
Or however long our time really was

Days would be forgotten
No measure of time seemed to fit our lovely hours

The minutes and seconds blurred
Into the cool reflection on the surface

Fingers trailing in the water
As we drifted across in the rowboat

The little carp dancing happily
As we threw bread for them

The way the firelight made you glow
And let me shine beside you

I won't forget the promise, love
The lake waits for us yet

Will you come with me?

A lover of this poem could write back in verse and does. But I say back, repeating merrily like a very parrot:

The little carp dancing happily. We threw bread for them?

and further...(though this is personal by way of scenario for me w/ my sad body and my image of it/and abstract it makes no sense esp. as I continue)

Come with me, I say. The firelight makes you shine; but my hair shines not so very bright like my alchemy sisters,
(who have the trick of hair down pat)
shine away. I would come I would, but only if we were needy and cold and thin,
I would come if we needed each other. I you needed me and wanted me.
If I wanted you and needed you, I would.

The life was long we had by the lake by the sea even when I was frozen in the depths of the Alaskan coast; I could not take a life or keep it. I could not be lost.
