festive season

did you hear that?

can it be, can you tell

that noise you hear every year

those tinkling, jingling sleigh bells

little children in their beds

resting their little heads

so they can be wide awake 

so unwrapping can take place

early birds singing

dawn has broke

kids yawning, barely waking

leave them be until they know

running down stairs, smiles so wide

laughter fills the air

adults taking pictures,

wrapping paper everywhere

family fun, all together

many others the same for a reason

these memories are forever

on this festive season.
