RELIGION

RELIGION

A Poem by Ellen Hammond

RELIGION

"Judge not lest ye be judged"

The Bible says so clear

So why do so many

Put you down, my dear?

They say you are sinful

Your lifestyle needs to go

You must walk the pathway

Which they dictate, you know

Don't dare wear that earring!

Cut your hair!  Change your clothes!

Do this, but don't do that

On and on their list grows

Are these religious rules

They like to preach and shout

What being a Christian

Is really all about?

Webster says religion

Is man's attempt to win

Acceptance from his God

Deliverance from sin

But faith in our savior

Works the other way around

Because God so loved us

To the cross Christ was bound

We accept or reject

What Jesus did for us

His gift of redemption

Should cause joy, not a fuss

But man takes the simple

And complicates it so

Expecting perfection

So heaven bound we'll go

Yet Jesus left one law

Before He rose above

Not rituals or rules

But live a life of love

Hello Ellen, I agree with you a 100%. I went to Catholic school, never told that God loved me, the Nuns were telling us don't do this or don't do that, or you will go to hell. I stray from religion, my faith is much stronger since. I have a direct connection with our Maker, not water down by religion, when their priority is to feel their pockets, making changes only to benefit them, have no respect or recognition for each other. Forget that we are all children of God and brothers and sisters. Thank you so much for your beautiful poem and for sharing with us. God Bless

Wow this is so true...people tell us what to do and not to do...and sometimes we get caught in it...but we shouldnt listen to them for their is a bible for us to follow and that tell's us what God wants us to do...if only everyone thought this...maybe then they will see the truth...but i guess they will have to learn it the hard way...i just hope they see the light soon.
Great Poem :)
