ABC'S OF LOVE

ABC'S OF LOVE

A Poem by Ellen Hammond
"

This is my first attempt at an abecedarian poem, which is a special form of an acrostic poem in which the initial letters of the words beginning each line or stanza spell out the alphabet in order.

"

ABC'S  OF  LOVE

As I  lie here musing,
Beneath a tranquil sky,
Cherishing the moment,
Dreaming of days gone by;

Every precious memory
Flows gently thru my mind;
Gossamer  wings  eclipsing
Heartache and words unkind.

If perhaps we had known,
Just when your ship sailed,
Kindred  souls  betrothing,
Love  may have  prevailed.

Moonbeams softly glowing,
Ne'er more will calm my fears.
Our future hopes...vanquished.
Promises, drowned with tears.

Questions  left  unspoken....
Resounding through my soul,
Still  demanding  answers.....
Taunting,  I'll ne'er be whole.

Unforgotten sweetheart,
Venture once more to me,
Where  our  love  ignited.
X  ever marks our tree.

You'd still be with me. But,
Zion set your spirit free.

Look what you have written! The AbC's of love. It took you to spell it out for those of us who have allowed a little ice to form around the edges of our heart. To have love and lose it, through death is a tragedy and through other aspects in life it is painful. Either way, it always leaves us with unanswered questions. Sometimes though it can leave us with very sweet memories to revisit. I am glad you retain those.

This speaks about encounters in life with the passage of time. Through all the years, love has never fade. It just rests comfortably in one's heart. This is creatively written. The words aren't forced. A perfect abecederium.

Very well done Ellen. Can't possibly be your first attempt. Such love and joy is evident here only to be lost sadly. Some are never allowed to experience suchlikes. Thanks for sharing with us.

Class is now in sessions and I must say you laid it out with a lot of class... love is still a mystery but you certainly defined a lot of its traits beautifully

Well you have a mind for poetic creativity. You've put a lot of thought into your craft, and your skill shine true. I enjoyed the originality and poetic craft you display within every line. The dedication to the structure alone is worthy of applause.

Ellen what a fabulous write. I believe we have all at one time or another in our lives loved and lost. Some of us have loved and it was strictly one sided. Hurt, betrayal, pain, tears-- whether happy or said are all a part of love and living for that matter. You are very talented my dear friend. Thank you for sharing.

Almost invariably, when a poet tries to impose such rigorous stuctural limitations on a piece, the idea is forced, and the rhymes problematic at best.

Almost!

This is so flowingly, liltingly lovely, I might not even have noticed the abecedarianism of it, had you not warned me in advance. I once composed a similar, even before I knew it had a title! (See "Catalogged")
