Dragon

Dragon

A Poem by Elle

"
And you thought dragons didn't exist.
Yet, here I sit.
Directly in front of you.
Teeth barred and
Claws ready
To rip the screams right from your throat.

You shouldn't be surprised, really
I can't imagine why you would be.
After all, you always knew I was a
Monster,

You dreamed me one yourself;
In fact
And the name sticks with me now-
Years later.

You gave me an identity
I couldn't shake-
-Even if I wanted to.
I never wanted to.

Dragon breath and talons
Protect me; Always have.
Bitter words and dark hatred
Have fed my soul for so long

How could I be anything less
Than what I've always been?
