Intro to my chapbook Henry. A man recounts different times in his life mostly tragic. But the one recurring thing in his life is his cat, Henry.

Sounds

From the womb-a beating heart; thump, thump, thump, thump

Cradled by the fluids of life there are unrecognized voices without faces.

From behind glass the unrecognized sounds of the new world around me and the sound of my own crying.

Later, the computational motion of jazzy waves, spilling from a record player; pours in through my window.

Screams some from pleasure some from pain

More crying from me

Echoing-gunshots in my ears-more screaming

Sirens

Doors closing loudly-

Sounds

I had not yet heard

Sounds before silence
