A Geek Love Letter

I decided to write something a little different...

From the day I first met you on that server,

Three billionths of a lightyear ago,

And asked you "a/s/l?"

I was in love with you

 

It wasn't just your gaming skills,

The way you position your hands on the keypad,

The accurate and methodical way your avatar fights off the zombies,

To collect the relic hidden in the monster-filled dungeon

 

It wasn't just your impressive knowledge,

Even though you know when the first Legend of Zelda game was created,

And how powerful a lightsaber is in volts,

Even the name of Aragorn's great-grandfather

 

It wasn't even that you took the entire original geek test,

And scored 'Dysfunctional Geek',

The highest title obtainable

No, it wasn't all that

 

It was the way you always knew what to say, and how to say it,

It was how your humor brought me out of so many dark times,

It was how you said to me, one night over chat,

"You plus me... equals 1337"

 

OK.

Here's the truth.

Ever since you rescued me from that cave troll in the Lord of the Rings Defense,

I knew my heart would never beat for another.

 

As Theoden King said before the battle of the Pelennor Fields,

"Great heart will not be denied."
