Success

Success

A Poem by Emily B
"

in pursuit of the Magnum Opus

"

as I am a child of the Universe,

I choose

to converse with angels.

Someday

I will learn

the powers that define

true grace.

I will be

my own Greatest Work

when I surrender.

I was moved by your poem and few I've read do that to me. I got choked up: one of the proofs for me that a poem holds a universe of emotion is that it can race my heart, blur my eyes, give a tremble to my lip. And this poem did that for me. And you end it with the word "surrender," which is the door through which you finally enter to learn all the answers that once clouded your mind.

This poem is built around first person verbs - 'I am' - 'I choose' - 'I will learn' (or stripped even further, 'I will' in the sense of 'will-power' - 'I will be' - which is 'I am' in the future tense and then 'I surrender'.
A wonderful armature on which to hang the clay of life. We determine ourselves.
Within the Universe, we may seem as nothing. No-one can make us do or be anything but within that Universe we can create something which is significant (otherwise, why are we here?). But there are powers which define our being that that are within us. When we choose to align with them, surrender to them. we become our 'Greatest Work', our real self.
I hope in my wandering words, I have the grasp of what you have said far more succinctly and more beautifully in your fine poem,
John.

This was stunning for me, reaching into yourself and out into the Universe to find that depth of purpose and more. I think this struck me so deeply because it's where I am in my own life right now. Thank you for this write!

"I will be my own greatest work". I love this and the roundness of the logic; that we can only become what we truly are by not trying to be seperate beings at all. Beautifully done.

Wonderfully simple yet deeply thought provoking. Elegance in ten lines.

To surrender is to be vulnerable. To be vulnerable is the bravest thing a man could ever do. The best way to know one's strength is by taking the mask off and throw the shield away. Surely, success would be within reach.
