trick or treat

trick or treat

A Poem by Emily B

You frightened me last night.

No sooner

had I crawled in under cold covers

then --

there you were

standing in the hall

gazing so intently.

As I startled,

I realized

that I never heard you

come up the stairs.

And then you vanished

without a word

What a great write - it conjures two scenarios to me - one very frightening with a ghost BOO!!! ...according to the season of course but also another one where the husband/partner comes home late at night, gathers a few things, looks back at his wife/partner says a silent "So long..." and vanishes out of her life...

Only a few words you needed to paint this whole picture - marvelous. I truly like it.

A picture of words and creepy with it .. love the way you've painted your words into a mysterious ending .. so right for the time of year .. though the poem would stand an entire year and more!

Wondering if they were still there upon second glance....what would the outcome be? This one made me think....and a great title in light of the season. Great work

I mentioned that you will the words to your will...Multiple scenes are cast in such few words.

good good good good
I think the "trick or treat" means here whether the intruder is friendly or sinister.. right? Like, a lover tottering off to bed, or a ghost wafting through the halls?
so, yes it's mysterious... not so it loses its meaning, or drive.

As you started what? running like hell? Who scared who? this is great, I can think of so many meanings to this.
I like the anticipation you put out here. I will finish this up in my own mind.
