rough work

rough work

A Poem by Emily B

You aren't the same man

any more.

Your mirror lies

if the reflection you see

hasn't changed.

The weight of hard years

lifts from your shoulders

day by day

and ordinary

miracles are still worked

by extraordinary hearts.

Light shines

so often

from unexpected sources.

I am amazed

at the transformation.

I am amazed
at the transformation

A simple but powerful piece. When somebody at the bottom still has light inside of them and can use it to tranform themselves for the better it is amazing. An unrecognized miracle that happens everyday and that we never see for the smog. Well done and bravo:)

You're work continues to improve, Em. This one is simple, tight, and well-rounded. You seem to have a knack, always, for expressing so much about your respect for others; here, this piece is no different. You have held up a mirror for another, reminding them how they have out shone themselves. A wonderful ode to another. A strong reflection. An excellent piece of work!

The transformation happens within this poem, Emily. This is a very effective device: leading the reader to think, at the beginning, that this may be a critical look at the man, only to find by the time you write "Light shines..' it is really a paean to the change taking place within him. Very good reading, and re-reading.

A beautiful flowing poem. I love the the last two verse, especially light shines so often from unexpected sources. This was contentment through growth, love for one self and in turn, others. At least, that is what I took from this. I needed to read this today. Remarkably done...

This unmasks the irrelevance of attractiveness and youth precepts and the necessity of staying eternally beautiful strong, vital human. This was a great way to show that life can be lived also in honest acceptance of each other while getting older and changing the physicality.

What man does not secretly hope that others notice when time rubs in a bit of wisdom, understanding, and gentleness?
Remarkable writing and insight.
