rough work

rough work

A Poem by Emily B

You aren't the same man

any more.

Your mirror lies

if the reflection you see

hasn't changed.

The weight of hard years

lifts from your shoulders

day by day

and ordinary

miracles are still worked

by extraordinary hearts.

Light shines

so often

from unexpected sources.

I am amazed

at the transformation.

I am amazed
at the transformation

A simple but powerful piece. When somebody at the bottom still has light inside of them and can use it to tranform themselves for the better it is amazing. An unrecognized miracle that happens everyday and that we never see for the smog. Well done and bravo:)

Like the other reviewers, I enjoyed the uplifting twist within this poem: a compassionate, inspiring message. Sometimes I worry how much the mirror lies, and wonder if I should avoid all mirrors for a few weeks and then see if I can detect all the changes. However, I'm hardly wise yet and certainly not miraculous! Has he read this? It's lovely; thanks for sharing.

This is beautiful, in a very real way.

Clever and honest it is...as one of the other reviews mentions it...such lovely words emily....yes as the poem begins it does lead the reader to expect something different than what the poem turns out to be...over the years,a lot of transformation takes place both physically and from within...but i believe all the changes are for the best...for if at all you find yourself drifting and only think that you are moving towards worse...that is when the turning point has begun and you won't even realize how the change occurs and from where you get the strength for the changes...to face them and overcome your flaws.

I've read recently that the hardest work, of which any man/woman can be challenged w/ is transformation of thought patterns..seeing beyond appearances of how things seem to be and seeing the true reality of joy and prosperity...
it's a self-exploration and it takes a lot of will and courage and it's where the minuscule beauties lie..
and ironically, these truths are revealed in a perfectly complimentary way when working rough labor w/ the hands...
I've seen both sides and I see both sides revealed in this clever and honest and personal bit of writing.
