Outer Shield

Outer Shield

A Poem by Emily Wright

Standing strait,
Tall and strong,
Standing up against the darkness,
Letting no fear show through your walls.
People see you with a heart of steel,
But is this truly how you feel?
In reality you would break,
But you have built an outer shield,
Making it seem,
Seem as though you are,
Untouched,
Unfazed,
But inside the walls,
Inside the shield of protection,
You feel as though you will break,
Your heart is not as strong as you make people believe,
Your heart is really like a crumbling building,
Pieces falling away because of all the pain you have felt,
But this is something you refuse to show,
To show to people outside those walls,
Those walls of protection you have built,
They all view you as
Someone strong,
Someone that cant be hurt,
Someone why refuses to show their pain,
But you are really hiding behind that wall of protection,
Hiding behind your outer shield.
