A woman in prison saying goodbye to her lover

A woman in prison saying goodbye to her lover

A Poem by Emily

"I'm writing you just to let you know what's on my heart and mind."

   She Got Off The "Dope"

   A Forced Recovery

                Like Most

She Is Now Better Than Him

And Shakes Her Head In Disapproval

"I Love You, Larry, But I Have To Say Goodbye"

           To Live Without The Memory

Of Who She Had Become

       Erasing History And Creating

A Brand New Future

Where She Does The Right Thing

And Goes Back To Her Husband

       As

           If

            Nothing

                      Ever

              Happened

        Perception

                           Switches

On Carnival Lights

Merry Go Round Music

          Games To Throw Three Darts

Three Chances To Win A Prize

And It Is Not The Stuffed Bunny

That She Loves

   But The Award

       To Put On A Shelf

   And Look At

To Tell The Story Of Her Greatness

             that day
