Freedom

Freedom

A Poem by Duckey

I can hear you rattling your chains
Looking for a way out
A weakness in the metal
And the freedom that you crave
In the deepest part of your soul

The Shackles burn I know
The floor is damp
And the air has lost all oxygen
That your lungs crave

You stretch your toes to try and catch
The single ray of sunshine
That illuminates the room
For but a minute everyday
The steel bars cast long dark shadows
On the mossy concrete floor

Your shoulders ache from holding your weight
And your toes are bleeding
From the teeth of the rats

No telling how
This will all work out
So you spend every moment
In endless night
Hoping
Praying
That death will take you into it's cold embrace
