Free like the birds

Free like the birds

A Poem by Tanya

I lay awake night after night
Thinking what it's like to fly.
To fly in the sky with all the birds,
to be free,
Closing my eyes before I take off
Wishing that I will not fall
Opening my wings and off I go
Feeling the cold wind under my wings
flying above from house to house
I'll land on a brunch and looked beyond
In a little girls window I will see her pray
I'll fly to her and sit and listen
She will wish to fly like the birds,
To be free.
I will see and hear her cry all night.
For many years I will sit there and listen
Till one day her wish comes true.
She wouldn't want to suffer not much longer with the scars she had
So she will hung herself to end her life.
But because she'll be dead, she's be a bird
Flying high up in sky
Being free as she always wanted
Being with me who listened to her cries.
We will fly above you day and night
Watching and listening to you as you cry.

You created a lovely picture of a tragic situation. Mostly, when poets try to write about suicide, the end result is rather dark, and understandably so, but you managed to weave an interesting thread of freedom into your poem which even makes the sad event seem okay.

Freedom is there for us and our scars, physical or emotional (the latter often worse) if we can find solace in the comfort from those who love us.

Great writing!
