Dirty Dishes

Dirty Dishes

A Poem by Eri13

The dishes are dirty

The laundry is sitting

Still damp

In the washer

Unfolded clothes

Fill baskets to the brim

Ready to spill over

Cascade onto the unswept floor

These things are more important

The messy house

the dirty rooms

the sink full of dishes

I lie here

Awake

Alone with my thoughts

I keep trying to tell you

How do I say it

How do I make you see

How do I let down the walls

Let you in again

When

The dishes are dirty

The laundry is sitting

Still damp in the washer

I love this piece so much...reminds me of a poem called
"Sorting Laundry" by Elisavietta Ritchie....
the metaphor is well done....
doing mundane things usually helps us cope...but sometimes our feelings stymie us so much we just cannot move...we are unable to perform the simplest tasks.

I am a clean freak so I'd prefer cleaning first. All else will look after itself lol.

If we do the housework a lot of stuff gets resolved in the process. Interesting poem.

Sounds like a relationship in trouble. That must be given priority over housework.

I like this, full circle. Some things always seem to get in the way of what we would really rather be doing. Sometimes it is better to just ignore and explore. You know what they say, all work and no play...
This was really well crafted. Thank you for sharing.

There's a feeling here of being overwhelmed by life and a desperation to fix it.
Powerful emotions
