A Writer's Canvas

A Writer's Canvas

A Poem by Eva Rosehill
"

We are artists..

"

My pages are my canvas;
  I paint vivid images with my words,
  Emotions concealed elegantly within shapes,
  To be admired and perceived by minds eye.

My paints, the imagination;

Flowing freely over blank absence,
  An outpour of insightful colour,
  Caught in contrast between chaos and grace.

My brush, the quill;
  I dip deep into my soul,
  And craft the picture from my entirety,
  A self-portrait, I am my work.

This was a wonderful work of ink. It really shows the importance that poet places upon their connections with their inner selves. I love how each staza has a specialty. The first being the surface. That outer weave the connects the poet to the life beyond the poet on the outside. The second spoke of the integral source of a poets life. The colors and the imagination pouring, laughing, and sometimes bleeding upon the page. The last tells us of the tool, that which a poet needs to carve out the image or scribe the word. Without the synthesis of all three we are blank upon the cosmos.

My favorite stanza had to be the second one. 'Caught in the contrast between chaos and grace." is an exquiste tapesty of words. I felt that it really brought out the concept of that source of inspiration. For it is a true wisdom that we all as poets and writers spill our stuff from the waters that run between the extremes.

Overall, an amazing poem. I very much enjoyed reading it.

"A self-portrait, I am my work. " ...such a brilliant epitaph, Eva!

The opening to each stanza is perfectly set, and reads with great conviction.
