Star

Star

A Poem by EverEmma

The star's wizened points,
Fading as it grows old
Creasing and wrinkling together
As one endless universe

An angel's stature
Falls down in ache and pain
The mirror's shards,
Pierce her marble flesh

Aging is life's gift to you,
For making it this far
But punishing for the ones who didn't

In the cotton sheets of cloud nine
Or the raging inferno of Satan's palace
Our eyes must flutter shut for the last time
And we all must meet our maker

Have you ever been to the Bonaventure Cemetery? For some reason, that second stanza made me think of all the wonderful statuary there. Actually, the whole poem conjures up images of that beautiful place.

you infuse your religious beliefs well here - the stars - the marble angels pierced by mirrors - and I like the shades of wisdom - the idea of age being a gift - one doesn't read such a view often in this world where age is the enemy - a great creative write here!! nice!

Wow. A great write, religious or not. :) I am a very religious person, so it was easy to connect. Those last two lines really got me:

Our eyes must flutter shut for the last time
And we must all meet our maker

Great work.
