Aoife

A Poem by Mairead
"

A poem I wrote today on the 18th anniversary of my best friend's death. We met in nursery school at age 4, my first friend. We had 4 years together until she sadly passed away from leukaemia aged 8.

"

My heart still holds a place for you,
My mind it does too,
A big old wooden chest,
Filled up with memories of you,
The sound of your laugh,
The colour of your hair,
Each and every one of them,
I keep them safe there,
As the sands of time keep flowing,
As the seasons come and go,
The memories fade a little more,
But I just can't let them go,
We didn't have much time together,
But what we did have I hold so dear,
And it's those memories that help get me by,
As I miss you each and every year.
