The Creature of Fear

The Creature of Fear

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

It existed underneath the fallen leaves.

"

It existed

underneath the fallen leaves.

The colors hid it wonderfully.

It was

an unexpected surprise

for any person who

came upon it.

In the darkness

of a fall night,

something maddening

was created.

Something so

terrifyingly horrible

that the human imagination

could hardly comprehend it.

It was a create

born from the darkness

of human hate.

Dressed it did

in the shape

of human fear.

Fed it did upon

the whims and the desires

of the human race.

In the darkness,

it lingered unknown

and lived upon

the fear of the shadows

that underlay the instincts

of modern convenience.

Even as the human race

developed to its zenith,

primal instincts continued

their reign at the onset

of night.

The creature knew this

and took advantage

of it.

The more the human race developed,

the more it denied

its primal past.

The creature knew this, too.

There was no

greater thing than

the fear that came with

impending doom.
