The Realm of Ignorance

The Realm of Ignorance

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

That time, I saw something that was beyond my ken.

"

That time, I saw

something that was

beyond my ken.

Although I didn’t understand,

I could reasonably

see it with my own eyes.

Thus, I could judge

what was before me.

It was dark.
I was blind.

For the life of me,

I could not see correctly.

The knowledge

that I had

half-existed

in a realm of ignorance.

All I knew

was that things

would never again

be the same.

Things would change,

and I would have

to accept them.

At the moment,

I would have to go on.

I could never think

in the same cyclical patterns

ever again.

My mind would

have to zigzag

from one thing to another

to make logical connections.

Only then would

I be complete.

In that realm of ignorance,

I found myself

growing mature and

seeing the world as

it really was:

something that was

hardly ever simple.

It was simple

in its complexity.

I could not understand

the complexity,

but I could understand

the smaller parts

of the complexity.

When I understood

the smaller parts,

I could finally

understand the whole.

Then, the realm of ignorance

no longer was

the world I once

called it.

In order to understand something, one has to comprehend the smaller pieces to fit them together to form the whole puzzle.
