Dark Eyes

Dark Eyes

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

Don't you realize that your dark eyes are my eyes too?

"

The first time I saw

those dark eyes

I felt a tremor begin

in the depths of my soul.

They were handsome and bright

but filled with an unmistakable loneliness.

All I long is to ask you

why you look so sad.

Still, I am afraid

to approach you.

Though those dark eyes

only met mine briefly,

I felt a connection with you.

I don’t know if it’s just me,

but I feel like I know you.

I know who you are,

and I’ve felt that

same exact loneliness.

For so long have I held it

in my own heart.

Here you are now,

next to me.

Again I ponder

who exactly you are.

Nothing on the outside

tells me so except

those dark eyes of yours.

We could know each other,

and I could be your solace.

Don’t you realize that

your dark eyes are

my eyes too?
